OpenGRC was started in January 2025 as a side-project. We were tired of GRC platforms that cost $30k+ that were impossible to use. So, we wanted to see how difficult it would be to develop a GRC platform from the ground up. We wanted to design a system that was immediately usable by anyone with basic GRC knowledge. And we wanted that system to be accessible to anyone - not just those with a large security budget.

From that passion - and frustration - OpenGRC was born and continues to grow!
